Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well during this Friday afternoon.
I completed my 6th session with Go Girl on Skype today. We had our usual check-in before I screen shared my experiment of using speaking blocks to everybody. I typed ‘Hello, my name is Ruby’ in English. I set the default language to Spanish. Using text-to-speech command, it said ‘Hello, my name is Ruby’ in Spanish which is ‘Hola, mi nombre es Ruby’. I tried it in German and it also worked. I thought it was fascinating.
Afterwards, Ken demonstrated a sample program using speech recognition. It had listening errors including nothing being spoken. Speech recognition can have problems such as an inability to access a microphone. Sometimes, you would have to repeat what you said e.g. ‘Hello, how are you?’
For 5 minutes, we played around with a listening project on Snap! about the next thing being spoken or an error. It was fun.
Our homework is to try many different commands e.g. changing colour, using sound effects, experimenting and enhancing it do interesting things. I’m looking forward to playing around with it.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I’ll see you in the next blog post!
